Jism 2 Music: Plagiarism or Inspiration?

July 27, 2012

The two videos are to compare. The Turkish song is a very famous and a very old song which is very popular in Turkey, Jism2 title song is so similar that one begins to wonder whether it is direct lift from the Turkish song. The movie is made by Pooja Bhatt and the music is by one Mr. Mukherjee, to the best of my knowledge.

Plagiarism is a crime and a clear copyright violation. The Bhatt movie factory has earned a substantial sum from the sale of the music. Have they acknowledged that the title song of the movie is a direct lift from a Turkish song? Have they taken any permission from the Turkish singer and music company? I think the similarity is unerring. Rest is for the readers to decide.

Note: This blog generally does not pick up issues related to entertainment but this was so gross and in the face that I could not but pick it up. I had heard this song some months back and wanted to download it on my Sony Walkman. The Turkish song is a classic and I understand very popular in Turkey. Its a shame if there is no acknowledgement about the origins of the Jism 2 title song.

Next post will be on politics and international affairs and if not on Sociology, and that’s a promise.

You are so right. But the Turkish song seems more soulful.

you are a dumb man, the song is materially different hence does not violate copyright its like mixing a track. Read copyright law… maybe in India is different in the UK this completely fine.
